- Band students have among the highest grade point averages on campus, ranging at the 3.0 to 3.2 level. This is substantially higher than the university average (2.6-2.9). Students achieve at this level because they are forced to be better organized and make the best use of the time they have. - New shows for every home game, no boring repetition of shows. |
- Band students represent nearly every academic discipline on campus, the averages from past years include: |

- The make-up of the band is just about 50-50 men vs. women (44% men, 56% women) - Plenty of opportunities to travel abroad with the band, particularly in the marching band. - The chance to be a part of an exciting and accomplished football program. Tiller has things going strong, and and another bowl trip is a good possibility! |
- Students are part of one of the largest organized groups on campus, and one of the most recognized band programs in the country. These recognitions include the Sudler Trophy, an award received by less then 5% of the college marching bands in the country. Purdue was also the first school without a school of music to win the award. |

Registration forms will be sent out by the Band Department in mid-May. Please fill out the forms completely, and return them as quickly as possible. If you are going to be on vacation and end up missing the deadline, get the forms back as soon as you can when you get back. The audition music will be mailed to you after the Band Department receives the registration materials. Unlike High School, the fees to be in marching band are minimum. There are TWO fees for Marching Band, a $50 lab fee that the university collects, which covers registration processing, music, uniforms, lockers, and large instrument usage. There is also a $90 activity fee which the bursar collects via a bill sent to you during the second week of classes which covers t-shirts, performance costs, travel expenses, game day meals, uniform dry cleaning, and any other social activities. If you decide not to march, there is still the $50 lab fee, but the activity fee is only $40. |

You may receive information during the summer about Boiler Gold Rush (BGR). Boiler Gold Rush is a freshmen orientation program that takes place the week before classes begin. You may wonder if you can participate in both Boiler Gold Rush as well as in marching band. The answer is yes and no. Yes that you can participate in Boiler Gold Rush, but you should NOT sign up for it. The main sessions of Gold Rush is built into your band camp schedule, so you will still be attending all of the important information sessions, and will only miss the inconsequential discussion groups, tours, etc. We will cover these as part of your camp session, including tours with your section. The best part of this is that BGR is FREE for you as part of the band program. If you sign up for BGR, it will cost you more money, and you will end up missing the required band sessions.
